Our approach to scoring supports the improvement of your ESG and Sustainability programmes

The Speeki Sustainability Score™ is an unbiased scorecard on your ESG and Sustainability practices provided by experts

The Speeki Sustainability Score™ is a testing and scorecard solution on key ESG and Sustainability areas.

The result of the Speeki Sustainability Score™ assessment is provided to the candidate with a report on where they need to focus their attention to improve. Our focus is for you (or your supplier) to be widely successful when it comes to ESG and Sustainability and we want to help provide a path for improvement.

The scoring process for each
Speeki Sustainability Score™.

Each Speeki Sustainability Score™ is based on a company answering questions within the Speeki Sustainability Score™ Portal. You will be presented with a set of questions to complete, ranging between 80–90 questions for a simple topic and up to 300 questions for a multi-topic questionnaire. You complete those questions and provide evidence at each stage of the process.

After our review of your answers and the documents presented, we will schedule an interview to clarify any outstanding matters. Speeki will then issue a Speeki Sustainability Score™ and a report scorecard that details how you should address any shortcomings.

The scoring methodology for each Speeki Sustainability Score™

Each question asked in an assessment has a set of four different responses. There are four levels of judgment on your answer. Our responses are scored and consolidated into the final Speeki Sustainability Score™. Each answer is subject to a scoring mechanism, which, along with an interview and the review of all your submitted documents, comes together to form your final score and Speeki Sustainability Score™.

What are we looking for?

Bribery and corruption

We are looking to see if the bribery risks in your company have been identified. We want to ensure that you have recognised the gross risk of bribery and implemented controls to reduce that risk to a net level that aligns with your risk appetite. We want to see that you have buy-in from senior levels of the company and that you have a monitoring and measuring system in place to test your controls. Additionally, we want to see an improvement system and how you address allegations of bribery and conduct investigations.

Whistleblowing

When reviewing a whistleblowing system, we want to see more than just a 'hotline' or an 'email address' that allows people to report issues. The grant of a Speeki Sustainability Score™ in this area will be predicated on having a comprehensive whistleblowing system, not just a policy and a basic reporting channel. We seek a mechanism where employees and others feel comfortable, encouraged, and protected when making reports through multiple channels. Additionally, we will want to see a detailed structure outlining how you manage incidents, following established triage and investigative protocols.

Diversity, equity and inclusion

To achieve a Speeki Sustainability Score™, you will need to demonstrate that you have a comprehensive system in place to manage diversity, equity, and inclusion. We expect to see the systems you have established around each of these areas and evidence that you have top management support for these initiatives. Additionally, we will need to see documentation of your activities, focus, current objectives, and your actions taken to meet those objectives.

Human rights and modern-day slavery

This area is fundamentally important to business. To obtain a Speeki Sustainability Score™, you will need to demonstrate a programme that goes well beyond a mere 'policy' and a summary on your website. You must show active involvement in ending human rights abuses and modern-day slavery within your own company and throughout your value chain. This includes the steps you have taken to proactively manage risks and validate compliance.

Compliance

A Speeki Sustainability Score™ can be awarded for compliance only when you demonstrate that you have a system in place to manage compliance risks. You will need to articulate and prove how you have identified a framework that is applied to compliance across your company and that this framework has been embedded within the organisation. The focus is on ensuring that you have a robust system for compliance, regardless of the underlying topic or area you are seeking to address.

Supply chain and partner management

Having an ethical, compliant, and responsible value chain is a key element of this assessment. To obtain a Speeki Sustainability Score™ in this area, you will need to demonstrate more than just a policy and a questionnaire sent out to new suppliers. You must provide evidence of a comprehensive system for managing risks associated with your value chain partners and show how you effectively manage that risk.

Health and safety

A lack of consideration for health and safety can increase absenteeism and negligence claims, negatively impacting workplace productivity and morale. To gain a Speeki Sustainability Score™ in this area, you will need to demonstrate a safety management system for your workplace. We need to see, and you need to prove, that the system is adequate, suitable, and effective for your company. You must show that the system you have designed is functioning, is regularly assessed and reviewed, and that you have an improvement mechanism in place to continually assess and reduce risks.

Data privacy and information security

The protection and access to an individual’s private data are growing in importance as new international laws come into effect. A Speeki Sustainability Score™ will only be granted when we see that you have identified all areas where you manage Personally Identifiable Information (PII) and that you have a system of consents and usage that meets legal obligations. For information security, we expect to see detailed information about the controls you have implemented and evidence that these controls have been regularly tested.

Documents are an essential part of your assessment. We will review them closely according to the following principles. Learn how we evaluate the documents you provide as part of your submissions.

ESG ratings icon
Relevance

We will validate that the documents are relevant to the actual question. We will assess whether the document has been provided in error or without a full understanding of what is required.

ESG ratings icon
Depth of content

Our team will focus on whether the document actually achieves its intended purpose. If it is a policy, we will check whether it effectively serves that purpose and whether the content 'works.'

ESG ratings icon
Applicability

Employing external experts allows a company to focus its internal resources on core activities. We can concentrate on the qualification of ESG and Sustainability issues.

ESG ratings icon
Adequacy

Adequacy tests whether the submitted document meets the basic requirements. We will examine if the document meets minimum expectations established by standard practices.

ESG ratings icon
Suitability

Suitability is a 'fit for purpose' test in which we determine whether the document (which is adequate) meets the needs of the company, considering its location, scope, activities, and risk tolerance.

ESG ratings icon
Effectiveness

A document may be adequate and even suitable but still not effective. We will evaluate each document within the context of your other answers to validate its effectiveness.

ESG ratings icon
Ongoing Improvements

We are looking to see that the document is 'alive' and continuously being improved. We will examine the naming, numbering, and changes over time to ensure it is constantly evolving and addressing changing needs.

What makes Speeki Sustainability Score™ different from a survey system with tick boxes?

We believe that the Speeki Sustainability Score™ provides companies with valuable insights into their performance, enabling them to take meaningful steps to improve their ESG practices.

A questionnaire that asks questions of a supplier:

- is normally one-way and gives no response to the supplier
- does not provide any feedback or direction to the supplier
- is rarely looked at in any detail by the supplier qualification department
- is rarely critically assessed by experts in ESG topic areas
- often lacks questions that are relevant and useful according to known risk areas
- asks too many questions on areas that are not relevant to that particular supplier

Using Speeki Path™ to assess the areas of risk in your supplier and then recommending the Speeki Sustainability Score™ assessments to be completed supports a practical and effective way to manage risk in your supply chain.

What makes Speeki different?

How does the Speeki Sustainability Score™ work for supplier qualification on ESG and Sustainability issues?

  • The system supports suppliers in completing the Speeki Sustainability Score™ assessments using multiple resources at various times.

  • A user-friendly platform and interface allow suppliers to upload and provide evidence for their responses.

  • The system provides clear instructions and examples to help suppliers respond to each assessment point.

  • The Supplier Speeki Sustainability Score™ methodology ensures that the assessment is comprehensive and evidence-based.

  • The scoring and weighting methodology is developed by industry experts and categorised into silver, gold, and platinum levels.

  • A summary analysis of the scorecard is provided, with content that depends on the supplier’s performance, highlighting potential strengths and weaknesses in their programme.

  • There is an ability to showcase the scorecard and achievements to you and other stakeholders.

  • Verified and clear guidelines are provided for each requirement or question:
